If you are a rider, this revolutionary boot technology will take your riding performance to its optimum. The gripping qualities of boots with this kind of technology were inspired by paws or polar bears. Isn’t that amazing?

Flex It With J-Flex

The J-Flex flexible comfort system makes Justin boots very comfortable because of the different layers of thin soles that make it both flexible and easily maneuverable with every flex.

JST

JST is a foot stabilization technology that is inserted in the sole. They use memory foam for this one. You already know what memory foam is, it is invented by NASA and gives stable yet comfy support.

How Ropers Started

Published by under Cowboy Boots, Justin Boots

For people who are not so into cowboy boots, a roper cowboy boot is a confusing subject. Ropers as cowboys call them are low-heeled boots. Some of them are almost flat and have no heels at all. Most ropers have a rounded toe and look very plain. Most of the time they are used as work boots.

Justin was the one that gave the roper its name. According to history, it was only introduced in the 1950s that ropers were introduced. Before that rodeo calf ropers wore tennis shoes but hardcore cowboys did not think that wearing tennis shoes would do the rodeo image any good. The Rodeo Cowboys Association later on decided that all contestants must wear cowboy attire. This is when John Justin, Sr. was contacted by the association and suggested that the boot manufacturer make a certain type of boots for ropers. This is how ropers were born. Today, Justin still produces these boots.

H.J. Justin of Justin Boots started his career as a boot repairman. Leaving his Lafayette home in Indiana, he ventured to Spanish Fort, Texas to start his own company. His wife was supportive of him and by the early 1890s he made kits for custom boots measurement. The boot maker’s sons later on joined his crew and the company was renamed from H.J. Justin to H.J. Justin and Sons. Two years later, the family sold boots in 26 states. These boots were also transported to Canada, Cuba and Mexico at $11 a pair. In 1918, H.J. Justin died and his sons Earl, John and Avis inherited the business. A few years later, the boys moved their father’s company to Fort Worth.

John Justin, Jr. son of John Justin purchased controlling interest in his grandfather’s company in the year 1948 and the company grew bigger. 20 years later, the company partnered with Fort Worth company Acme Brick to form the now renowned Justin Industries. Later on, Justin Industries purchased shares from other companies and even bought one of its major competitoes –Tony Lama. However, by the year 2000 the company was bought by Berkshire Hathaway.

Cowboy Boots: Know Your Parts

Published by under Justin Boots

Cowboy boots are a long-standing tradition of what was once the Wild West. Do you know the parts that make up a cowboy boot? There are quite a few, with some of the most interesting covered here. Grab that hot cup of joe, and learn a little more about your cowboy boots!

A toe box is a piece of material residing in the boot toe. The toe box offers protection and also reinforces the boot toe’s shape. The stiffer the material, the more protection offered.

The vamp, or upper, encases the foot starting at the sole upwards and surrounding the foot.

The shaft is the part of the cowboy boot covering the calf. It can be stitched or plain, and comprised of just about any material you can think of. The stitching found on a cowboy boot is typically what makes the boot unique.

Pull tabs are found at the left and right sides of the boot shafts. These leather pieces are stitched onto the shafts and allow the boot to be pulled onto the foot.

Spur ridges are what the cowboy’s spurs rest upon. Since most people wearing boots don’t ride horses, the spur ridge is just an additional feature on the back of the boot, found at the heel.

Insoles are what your feet stand on inside the boot, and can be made of many different materials, man-made or natural.

One For The Gals

Published by under Justin Boots

This one’s for all the gals — Justin’s Ladies Ostrich Print Gypsy Cowgirl Collection Boot. It’s a mouthful but what a fantastic way to dress up your feet!

Carefully crafted from the finest ostrich leather, these boots have 11″ tops and a round, gypsy toe, making it easy to dance the night away. If you’re an equestrian, the black rubber outsole and low heel are fantastic for proper stirrup feel. As with all Justin boots, a pair will last you, well, maybe forever. The boots are durable, comfortable and eye-catching.

Here’s a fun fact about H. J. Justin that you may not know. His wife, Annie, put together a special kit that would lay the foundation for the company. The Justins had set up shop in a Texas outpost that drew quite a few cowboys. With complete entrepreneurial spirit, Annie developed a way to reach those who couldn’t come to town, but needed new boots. The kit, developed in the 1890’s, contained Annie’s hand written letter touting leather pricing, measuring instructions, a 20″ ruler and a diagram of both foot and boot parts. Annie handed out kits to the cowboys as they headed to the range. While ranching, these first Justin Boot fitters would carefully measure the feet of bootless wranglers. Orders and information was sent back to the Justins. With everything in hand, H. J. could make a custom boot.

That’s how Justin Boots kick-started the company into the 21st century.
